With Editors BC’s new season getting underway this month, West Coast Editor felt now would be a good time to help members learn a bit more about their new executive for 2021–2022.
We’ve asked each member of the executive to describe their role in keeping Editors BC flourishing. We also asked them to pick two more questions on a variety of topics.

As we look forward to the 2021–2022 season, we would like to introduce you to your Editors BC executive members for this year.
First, though, we’d like to thank outgoing executive members Barbara Johnston (professional development), Katie Beaton (publications and West Coast Editor managing editor), and Joyce Chung (programs).
We extend a warm welcome to new executive members Claire Majors (professional development), Madeline Walker (programs), Rita Zamluk (programs), Janis Cleugh (co-secretary), and Naomi Cappallo (volunteer coodinator). These new executive members started their term on July 1.
In addition, Marta Orellana has moved from programs to publications and West Coast Editor managing editor.

When: Four Tuesdays, January 12, 19, 26, and February 2, 2021, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Where: Online through Zoom
Cost: $140 for Editors Canada members ($110 early bird), $195 for non-members ($165 early bird), and $70 for student affiliates. Advance registration required. Registration closes January 8, 2021, at 11:59 pm; early-bird rates are in effect through December 22, 2020.
In this interactive seminar, we’ll explore how editors can use their skills to move into the world of instructional design, a field that is growing rapidly as demand for online courses increases. Instructional designers focus on helping people learn effectively. They work with schools, universities, businesses, governments, and non-governmental organizations to design and create a wide range of learning and training materials. An instructional designer may structure, write, or edit content for an online course; create a storyboard for a training module; create a job aid to help someone perform a specific task; and much, much more.

In June, Editors BC elected its new executive for 2020-2021. We felt now would be a good chance for members to get to know these 11 volunteers a little better.
We’ve asked each of them a set of five quick questions aimed at giving members a glimpse of the person occupying the position, along with some choice professional wisdom.

During our online chapter meeting on June 17, Editors BC held elections to fill positions becoming vacant on the executive.
Before we list the new executive, we’d like to thank outgoing executive members Alexandra Bogdanovic (programs), Maggie Clark (publications and West Coast Editor managing editor), Marianne Grier (past chair), Ellen Michelle (professional development), and Tiffany Sloan (treasurer) for their dedication to serving all Editors BC members.
We are also extending a warm welcome to new executive members Katie Beaton (publications and West Coast Editor managing editor), Tania Cheffins (treasurer), Joyce Chung (programs), Letitia Henville (professional development), and Marta Orellana (programs). These new executive members will take over from their outgoing counterparts on July 1.

The holiday season has arrived, and if you believe the media, people now spend their days buying presents, baking up delicious goodies, and listening to carols on repeat.
Missing from that picture is any mention of work, especially any last-minute calls from a client or boss asking you to tackle (or finish up) a project that requires working right up to, or even through, the holidays.
Dealing with eleventh-hour requests, at the holidays or anytime, starts long before the call comes. We all need to know our boundaries. Some people are willing to work 14 hours at a stretch to complete a job. Others aren’t. Those boundaries may change depending on the season and an editor’s time of life. But everyone needs them.
