You are invited to be part of Editors BC’s popular Blue Pencil series, now being held via Zoom. This change opens up the program to editors and authors outside the Lower Mainland.
Editors BC and the Vancouver Public Library (VPL) are again offering the public a series of free editing consultations. These popular events build awareness for Editors BC and are a great opportunity for editors to build their skills and connect with potential clients.
This season’s Blue Pencil sessions are happening on May 11 and June 8 (both Tuesdays). Appointment times are 6:00–6:45 pm, 6:45–7:30 pm, and 7:30–8:15 pm. Sessions will take place via Zoom. Following a brief welcome from the library, editors and authors will be assigned to private rooms to discuss their projects.
Authors sign up through VPL. They submit a one-page summary of their project, a question or concern for the editor to address, and up to 2,500 words of writing, at least a week before their scheduled consultation. The volunteer editor reviews the material and provides one to two pages of written feedback to be discussed during the half-hour session. Any actual editing of the submission is at the editor’s discretion; it is not a requirement.
Editors can sign up for one or more sessions, on one or more days. Signing up is easy!
