What would be involved in writing about my three favourite books? Would I need to write three mini book reviews?

The best thing about being a guest columnist for The Bookshelf? You have a TON of leeway within a 750-word limit: one long review with a “What I’m reading right now” sidebar; two or three mini reviews; or perhaps book-related musings (e.g., favourite bookstores, most anticipated seasonal reads, favourite book memories).
Check out these examples from our print archives: Dania Sheldon’s review of Jude the Obscure (March 2012 print issue); Jessica Klassen’s musings about her obsession with libraries (May 2012 print issue); and Christine Dudgeon’s thoughts about reading a book that she later regretted (February 2011 print issue).
